Knights make costly errors, lose 2-1 to HFL

The Sutherland Knights lost 2-1 yesterday in the Class A Sectionals to the HFL Cougars at the Manor School in HFL.  Sophomore LHP Max Carver threw a complete game while allowing no-earned runs for the Knights in the loss.   Both HFL runs came courtesy of Sutherland infield miscues.

Sutherland finishes the year 10-12.

Marchiony Throws Perfect Game vs. Northeast

Sutherland senior right hander Matt Marchiony threw Sutherland's first perfect game in a defeat of Northeast Charter School at Sargent Field yesterday in the first round of sectionals.  Marchiony struck out 15 Panthers in the 3rd perfect game in Section V history and the 19th in New York State history.   Marchiony threw 72 pitches for the Knights and managed only two 3 ball counts in his seven innings of work.

Marchiony also led the way offensively with 3 hits to go along with a run scored and two runs batted in.

Sutherland is now 10-11 and faces HFL at the Manor School on Wednesday in the Class A Sectional Quarterfinals.

Canandaigua Downs Sutherland 2-1, Knights Only Manage 3 Hits

The Sutherland Knights lost 2-1 to Canandaigua at Evans Field.   The Knights wasted a phenomenal pitching effort by sophomore lefty Max Carver.   Max went 5.2 innings while only giving up 2 earned runs for Sutherland.     The Braves went up 1-0 in the 5th and squeezed across another one in the sixth courtesy of a Sutherland infield miscue to make the score 2-0.

Matt Marchiony continued his hot hitting with a long double to left field and pinch hitter Josh Aldred followed with a single to left field to make it 2-1.   The Knights could get no closer as they drop their third straight game.

Sutherland is 9-10 on the year.

Mendon Beats Sutherland 3-2 on Walk-off

After 17 straight victories over cross-town rival Mendon, the Sutherland Knights lost 3-2 to the Vikings on a walk-off wild pitch with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th at Mendon High School yesterday.   The loss drops the Knights to 9-9 and 4-4 in the league.   Sutherland travels to Canandaigua today for a 5 pm start.

9 errors does in Sutherland vs. HFL

The Sutherland Knights gave up 7 unearned runs on 9 errors and lost 9-1 to the HFL Cougars.    Matt Marchiony led the way for Sutherland with 2 hits and an RBI.

Sutherland is now 9-8 overall with a 4-3 record in the Division II.   The Knights take on the Mendon Vikings on Monday at Mendon HS.
