Knights Prevail Over Blue Devils 9-5

Behind the strong pitching effort of sophomore left-hander Max Carver, the Knights defeated the Batavia Blue Devils 9-5.   Carver threw 5.1 innings of 4 hit ball for his first Varsity win.   Robbie Doggett, who was victimized by poor infield defense, got the last 5 outs for the Knights.

Sutherland fell behind 2-0 but tied it up in the third when Drew Reddish tripled to the right field gap and Robbie Zielinski walked to put two runners on for Ben Swisher who singled in both runners.

The Knights then tacked on one more run in the fourth when Matt Marchiony was hit by a pitch, sacrificed to second by Michael Ryan, advanced to third on a Carver fly-out to right and scored on a Reddish single.

Sutherland then busted out with six runs in the sixth courtesy of a Josh Aldred RBI groundout,  Jimmy Murray 2-run single and numerous bases loaded walks.

Reddish led the way offensively with a 2 for 4 day including 2 runs scored and an RBI.   Swisher chipped in a 2-run single and a bases loaded walk totaling 3 RBIs.   Michael Ryan had 2 hits and a run scored.

Knights Knock off Canandaigua 7-5

The Sutherland Knights used a rally in the home half of the 6th to beat the Canandaigua Braves 7-5 at Sargent Field yesterday.   Sutherland used an RBI single by Jimmy Murray in the third to stake a 1-0 lead.   The Braves bounced back and tied the game in the fourth and jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the fifth.

The score stayed that way until the sixth when the Knights mounted a comeback.   Michael Ryan led off the inning with a hit by a pitch, and Matt Young's sacrifice bunt was misplayed putting runners at first and second for Robbie Doggett.   Doggett's sacrifice bunt was thrown away scoring Ryan and tying the game at 2.   Will Groark followed with an RBI single putting the Knights up 3-2.   A Matt Marchiony long two-run double to left and Murray sacrifice fly pushed the score to 7-2.

The Braves were able to push three runs across and put the tying run on base but couldn't get any closer.    Alec Vaules threw 5 innings giving up 2 runs with 1 being earned.   Doggett picked up his third win of the season in relief for the Knights.

Sutherland is now 6-7 and faces Irondequoit on Friday at West Irondequoit HS.
