The Sutherland Knights won their 7th Sectional Championship since 2005 with a 6-0 victory over Greece Arcadia last night at Dwyer Stadium. Senior righthander Kane Shaw picked up his seventh win of 2013 by throwing a 1-hitter with 10 strikeouts. The 1-hitter with Kane's second one of the season with the 1st being vs. Mendon earlier in the year.
The Knights used small ball in the 1st inning to score a run when Shaw reached base on an error, was sacrificed to second by Jimmy Gilman, stole 3rd base and scored on Hunter Merrill's sacrifice fly.
In the 3rd, Sutherland plated two more runs when both Alec DePaolis and Shaw singled to put runners at 1st and 2nd for Gilman who singled. Michael Pringle's RBI groundout to third base tacked on one more run to make it 3-0.
In the 5th inning, the Knights put away the Titans for good with three more runs courtesy of a DePaolis 2-run single and Forrest Hurlbut bases loaded walk.
Arcadia went 1-2-3 in the 7th and the ended on a groundout to DePaolis to make the final 6-0.
DePaolis led the offense with a 3 for 3 day including 2 RBIs and a run scored. Gilman and Michael VanderZwaag also chipped in 2 hits apiece.
Sutherland is now 16-7 and plays Williamsville South on Tuesday at Dwyer Stadium in the Far West Regional.
